associated therapies. Arya Vaidya Nilayam (AVN) was founded in 1930 by renowned Ayurvedic Physician Arya Vaidyan N. Rama Varier, who was a disciple of Vaidya Ratnam P.S. Varier of Kottakkal. After Dr Rama Varier, his son-in-law Dr P.V. Raghava Varier became the Chief Physician of the clinic and he heads the organization as the Chairman.
In 1980, when the firm celebrated the Golden Jubilee, AVN established a manufacturing facility to produce Ayurvedic medicines.A small Nursing Home and Research Centre were also added in the Madurai site.

Each one of us understands that falling sick can be quite expensive for financial and professional reasons. Hence in today’s day and age, it is becoming increasingly relevant to opt for a preventive route for healthcare. Co-incidentally, Ayurveda has a whole set of stipulations & guidelines, right from the moment of conception till the last stage of one’s life.
These sets of guidelines are divided into two categories namely daily routines (dinacharya) and seasonal routines (rithucharya). The former mainly refers to a set routine one is expected to maintain throughout life such as waking up early, doing exercise, maintaining good hygiene and eating in a measured manner, etc.
While seasonal routines refer to a seasonal lifestyle one needs to adopt in accordance with the changing seasons which will maintain the body in the best of health. Ayurveda considers man to be part of the universe and hence it believes seasonal and environmental changes would find reflections in the human body.

But we would like to assure you that, it is a combination of modern medicine and Ayurveda that decides the course of treatment. There may also be cases where only Ayurvedic methods may be used for the diagnosis. Again, it entirely depends on a case-by-case basis.

We may call ourselves an Ayurvedic institution but we cater to a range of medical systems including yoga, naturopathy, psychotherapy, and allopathy in some cases. Being an ayurvedic institution, we have an all-inclusive medical approach and do not exclude any system that can be of help to a patient and there is plenty of literature within ayurvedic texts to support this fact.
There are even hymns with ayurvedic texts that go on to say that there is nothing on this earth that is not a medicine. Hence the scope of Ayurveda is vast and we would like to keep it like that while running our ayurvedic hospital.
